Purgatory Mountain Resort is a family-oriented resort located just outside Durango in the San Juan Mountains. Although the facilities are constantly being improved, this mountain is still a favorite of locals. You will find affordable lift tickets and other amenities here.
Purgatory is a great place to learn intermediate and advanced skiing. One of the most distinctive features of the ski area are the terraces, banks, rollers, and rollers. Some runs feel more like a mini-boarder cross course or rollercoaster. It’s great to get some air off your lips, so long as you’re not trying! Twin-tippers will enjoy the terrain parks as well as the halfpipe.
While 35% of the trails have been rated black or double-black, most of them are bumps, and there are also some heavily glazed areas. There are no alpine bowls because the ski area is below treeline.
Purgatory Resort has 11 lifts that service the 1,605 acres of ski terrain.
Two hubs are available at Purgatory Resort. Columbine Base Area is the lowest part of the resort. It houses beginner slopes and a few other facilities like lift ticket sales or ski school. The central gathering spot in the Purgatory village pedestrian plaza is further up the mountain. Here you will find most of the amenities.
